Babies, Bottle & Cookies

One of my first baking memories is decorating Christmas sugar cookies with my Mom and siblings (my Dad naturally was on quality control).  Making them was always a big deal because we got to decorate them however our little heart desired.
Even though I am now very rooted in cake design, I love when I get asked to make sugar cookies.  I get a little nostalgic when I sit down to decorate a batch for a client.  I adore how personalized you can make a little cookie just as you would with a full scale cake.  These little baby inspired sugar cookies were individually packaged and handed out as favours for my clients baby shower.

I must say they are adorable and hope to get more baby themed sugar cookie requests in the future!

Health & Hearts

Personally, I believe that nurses make the medical profession go round.  They are that comforting voice telling you it’s going to be just fine when you aren’t so sure it is.  They are the ones who check in to make sure they keep the pain at bay.  They are the ones who will stay for two extra minutes when you start to cry because in that moment you just need to.  I am proud to have many nurses (and future nurses) in my life and I am so thankful for them and for the nurses who have been amazing in situations in my own life.

When I got a request for a cake to celebrate a nursing students graduation I was delighted.  I was more than happy to create a perfect nursing inspired cake to welcome another nurse into a tough profession that I am very appreciative of.

Congratulations to Kasarah and thank you in advance for all the good you will do in the world.

Lulu-licious

I always strive to make each cake individual and unique.  I never want the same cake leaving my kitchen twice, it always needs to be personalized for the person it is being made for.  There have been lots of requests for cakes people have seen me do before and want me to replicate.  I don’t mind doing this, as long as I can change it up a bit so it can be perfectly unique for my clients.  One of my most popular request is for a Lululemon bag, even though I have now done this style a few times I still love making them each time.  This particular client made only one request, that is was hot pink (my kinda lady!).

And so another Lulu bag was personalized, made and delivered to two very happy birthday girls.

It's Hockey Night Tonight

Being born and raised hockey girl you would think I would be a die hard fan of one team.  Not so much the case, certain players yes but never been devoted to one team (although I must admit the flyers have been stealing my heart as of late).  However, even though I do not have a favorite team, there is one team that I could not love less if I tried.  So i’m going to come clean and be open and honest and tell you that I am very much so anti-Canuck.  I have no legitimate reason or explanation other than they are just that one team that gets under my skin.

You can imagine the little giggle I let out when I got an email from a client who was looking to have a Canucks cake made for a friend who was a huge fan.  So I put my differences aside and I must say I ended up loving how this cake turned out despite the logo that was all over it and I know the Canucks fan was happy, mission accomplished.

Cakes for Kiddies

One of the favourite parts of my birthdays growing up was the cake (are you surprised?!?!) and for years the request was always the same, cotton candy flavoured icecream cake.  I remember how much I looked forward to that over the top sweet and sugarly slice of cake every year, it was awesome (still is, your never too old for cake people remember that).

Getting requests for kiddie cakes is probably one of my favourite kinds of cakes to work on.  It is a green light for whimsical, colourful, fun designs, which is exactly what came happened with these Hawaiian inspired birthday cakes for a couple of little munchkins.

Don’t forget you are never too old to have your cake and eat it to.

Hole in One

Dad’s are pretty awesome people, no wait, REALLY awesome.  My Dad is hands down a real life superhero, over the years I have realized that there is very little my Dad can’t do.
Growing up I was the epitome of a girlie girl (still am actually) and my Dad was what you could classify as rough and tough but as much as the interests we had were very different, sports was always one thing we could agree was a mutual love.

This golf theme cake was requested by a client to celebrate a special Dad in their life.  It was  fun one to tackle because it brought together two things I love, sports and my Pops.

Do me a favor, go give your Dad a hug and say Thanks... just because.

Welcome to the Neighbourhood

I’m a big believer in laughing.  I know it may be cliche but it honestly is the best medicine, keeps your heart happy and healthy.  So as you can imaging I love clients with a great sense of humor.

When my client Katie came to me with this idea, 1) I thought “O goodness how am I going to tackle this!” and 2) Knowing Katie for quite sometime, this idea of hers didn’t surprise me at all.  Katie requested a Transcona themed cake to celebrate a move into the area (for all the non Winnipeggers this cake idea will be less funny but trust me on the giggle factor of this one).  We came up with all kinds of things to represent that very unique little area of ‘T-cona’.

What better way to celebrate a move to the one and only Transcona that with an all things Transcona cake to mark the occasion! .
